chateau versailles

 photo HSO_5809.jpg

versailles is just so beautiful. though this is my second time visiting, i was still in awe of how grand and decadent and detailed it is. growing up, i was obsessed with all things 16th century french. i would read book upon book on louis XIV and marie antoinette and the french revolution. my dream was to marry a prince at versailles and have a fairytale wedding. so when i found out that kim kardashian was rumored to be married at versailles, my 10 year old self was quite jealous. they ended up only having the pre-wedding party at versailles and we just so happened to visit the morning after the big party. on top of the history of versailles, the fact that we were standing in the same room that lana del ray performed in the night before and the lawn where the huge fireworks occurred was pretty awesome as well. another highlight was the hall of mirrors, which was closed the last time i visited. the scale is so grand, with sparkling chandeliers and gold building everywhere and i spent over a half hour just walking the hall and taking pictures. i could go on and on about how beautiful versailles is but instead, i’ll just leave you with these photos so you can see for yourself. and stay tuned for the pictures of wonderful gardens i’ll post soon

getty villa

 photo HSO_9867.jpg

a few weekends ago, i went to the getty villa in malibu with my mom and aunt. the getty center in brentwood is probably one of my favorite museums and though the collection here at the villa isn’t my kind of art (mostly statues and antiquity), it is still a beautiful place to visit and explore. it was designed after the ruins of an italian villa and the builders paid meticulous attention to detail making sure everything was like the original, down to the plants and tiles used. we also took a tour of the herb garden, the only place on the grounds not based on the original villa, which was a fascinating experience because we got to see the kinds of herbs, fruits and vegetables that would have been grown in ancient times. i even got to pick a peach 🙂

sawdust festival

the sawdust festival is the place to be in the summer. it is an arts and crafts festival in laguna beach where all the local artists showcase their work in little handmade booths. it’s inspiring to just walk around and look at what people have created, both awesome and weird. the food there is also really good and i’ll go there just for the mediterranean veggie plate. its that good! there are also booths for great baked potatoes and sorbet. between the art and the food and the peaceful atmosphere, the sawdust festival is my favorite summer hangout

you remind me of home

today i went to the getty villa in malibu with my AP european history class. i really dig museums so it was a blast looking through though antiquity and sculptures aren’t my favorite kinds of art (i’m more of a modern art kinda girl). we went to the beach before and it was as beautiful and peaceful as a beach should be beach that early in the morning. here are some pictures that document my time at the getty villa and nearby beach

LACMA adventures

i visited LACMA (los angeles county museum of art) with my art history class today and it was such a treat. the modern art collection really blew me away and i was happy to see a painting there by my favorite artist, piet mondrian. there was a huge ballon poodle which being the poodle fan i am, was definitely a highlight, as were calder’s enormous mobiles (as seen above). i hope to visit soon when i am not with my class and do some exploring of my own… or just stay in the modern art exhibit all day
